The Black Satellites on Friday, March 22, 2024, claimed glory at the Accra Sports Stadium as they beat their Ugandan opponent in a mouthwatering encounter by 1:0 and clinched gold in the men’s football event of the African Games.

This remarkable achievement bonds with the Black Princesses exploit on Thursday, March 21, 2024, as they also stun Nigeria to win gold in the women’s football event of the African Games.

Ghana were given a keen contest in the early stages of the game, as Uganda weren’t looking like breaking down considering the twelve men at the stadium backing the Black Satellites. Although the satellites saw most of the ball, an opportunity to take the lead fell their way, but the goal was denied following an infringement on the Ugandan goalkeeper.

As the match was nearing its dying minutes, both sides were hammering to get the winning goal to prevent the game from entering extra time. In some heroic fashion, Jerry Afriyie came to the party as he scored a spectacular goal in the 90th minute to win gold on home soil for Ghana.

Young and vibrant coach Desmond Ofei made history as he led this young talent to bring home Ghana’s second-ever gold medal in a men’s African Games event dating back to 2011, when Ghana won its first with former head coach James Kwesi Appiah.
