The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, has revealed that there are plans in place for the newly built Borteyman Sports Complex after it climaxes its hosting of the 13th African Games on March 23, 2024.
According to him, Borteyman Sports Complex will be put into full operation as the University for Sports Development when all the games come to a close. The vacant Borteyman Sports Complex boasts numerous high-class facilities, including football pitches, a cafeteria, hostels, and a medical centre.
“To ensure the facilities are well maintained for the continuous benefits of the good people of our country, the facilities at Borteyman will be converted to the University for Sports Development after the Games to ensure the sustainability and legacy of these Games,” he said at a press briefing on Monday, March 4, 2024.
Hon. Mustapha Ussif also added that converting the sports complex into an ultramodern sports university will attract both local and foreign sports federations to consider Ghana as a comfortable place to camp ahead of any big competition, which will help position Ghana as a sports hub within the West African sub-region.
The Borteyman Sports Complex boasts an Olympic-sized 10-lane swimming pool, with an additional 10-lane swimming pool set aside for training purposes. In addition, the facility is well equipped with other sporting facilities for netball, volleyball, lawn tennis, and other sporting disciplines that meet international standards.
