The Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has officially announced that Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will jointly host the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN). This decision marks a significant moment for East African football, as it showcases the region’s growing influence and capability to host major international sporting events.
The tournament, known as the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship, will take place from February 1 to February 28, 2025. This month-long event will see teams from across the continent converge in East Africa to compete for the prestigious CHAN title, promising thrilling matches and a celebration of African football talent.
To ensure a competitive and engaging tournament, the qualifiers for CHAN 2025 are scheduled to start on the weekend of October 25-27, 2024. These matches will determine which national teams will earn the right to participate in the championship, heightening anticipation and excitement across the continent.
The decision to have Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania co-host the event underscores CAF’s commitment to promoting football in various regions of Africa. It also provides an opportunity for these nations to showcase their football infrastructure and hospitality to the world, potentially boosting tourism and economic activity in the region.
