A brace from Scott McTominay led Manchester United back to winning ways after by beating Chelsea 2-1 at the Theatre of Dreams on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

The Red Devils worked Chelsea by taking total control of the whole game, especially in the first period of the game, when they eventually got a penalty, but Bruno Fernandes got denied from the spot by Robert Sanchez before McTominay netted their first goal of the night in the 19th minute.

Chelsea also gradually found some momentum to get into the game when Mudrky accurately found Cole Palmer on the run of play to put the visitors level at 1-1 in the 45th minute. His equaliser at Old Trafford was his first open-play goal for Chelsea, adding to his four penalties this season and five assists.

The second half started at a slow pace as compared to the first half. United still held their ground as the better side of the day when Alejandro Garnacho found McTominay with a beautiful cross to put United back in front in the 69th minute. However, there had to be some VAR check, and the Blues offered precious little thereafter.

This victory gives United a valuable three points heading into the weekend’s game against Bournemouth, while Chelsea take on Everton to ensure they move above the 10th position rank.
