Former Barcelona and Brazilian star Daniel Alves has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison on Thursday, February 22, 2024, and will also pay compensation of €150,000 and legal costs for pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a young woman.
The court found the 40-year-old guilty of sexually assaulting a young lady on December 31, 2022, when it was pronounced by the lady that Alves raped her in the bathroom of an upmarket Barcelona nightclub.
Daniel Alves has been in jail since being detained on January 20, 2023, as all efforts to bill him out have been turned down by the court, which has deemed him a flight risk.
The young lady who was sexually assaulted told the prosecutors that she willingly danced with Daniel Alves and did the same as they both entered the nightclub bathroom, but after entering the bathroom, she wanted to leave, but Alves refused to let her go, which saw her receive a slap from him and also forced her to have sex with him.
With all this allegation poured on the footballer, he denied any sexual contact with the young lady but later admitted that the sexual relations were consensual. He added that he had to save his marriage; that’s why he didn’t initially admit to the claim made.
This incident might go a long way towards destroying Daniel Alves, who has worked hard and achieved career success as one of the most successful and influential footballers in the world. Alves is the most decorated player in the world, with 44 trophies, the same as his former teammate Lionel Messi.
