Some Football Pundits have welcomed the dismissal of Charles Kwablan Akonnor as Head coach of the Senior National Team, Black Stars after a string of uninspiring performances in the ongoing African Qualifiers for Qatar 2022.

They believe the decision to dispense off the services of the ex-Black Stars Captain has come at an opportune time as any hesitance could have further sent the team on a downward spiral.

Contributing to the GTV Breakfast Show, Veteran Football Analyst, Ekow Asmah said he was least surprised about the development as in his view C.K Akonnor did not have the clout for the position. According to Mr. Asmah, the former captain’s record of 4 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws is nothing good to laugh about with his posture after the Ethiopian game being the last straw.

Also on the show was Soccer Analyst, Abdul Kadri Sienu who said the appointment of C.K Akonnor was a rushed decision considering the fact that he does not have enough experience.

‘’Most of the teams the former Head Coach managed to beat are ranked low by FIFA, an indication that all was not well,’’ he said.

Benjamin Willie Graham of GBC’s Sports Desk asserted that the frequent hiring and firing of Black Stars Head Coaches is a result of the lack of technical plan to determine the type of gaffer that best suits the country.

“We need to have a plan, based on the plan we can determine who the short term, medium term and long term goals. As it stands for now, there is no concrete plan to guide the Black Stars and their Management,’’ he stated.

In a related development, a former President of the Ghana Football Association, MMD Jawula said C.K Akonnor’s termination as Head Coach of the Black Stars was expected. This is because the performance of the Black Stars in the first 2 World Cup Qualifiers was uninspiring, which clearly did not sit well with a lot of Ghanaians. Speaking on GBCs’ ‘Behind the News’, Alhaji Jawula said the most important issue now is to find a Coach who in the interim can get the team on track to qualify it for the global showpiece in Qatar 2022.
