The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority-DVLA organised Corporate Fun Games in Accra on Saturday, with the Chief Executive of DVLA, Mr. Kwasi Agyeman Busia, emerging the winner in penalty shoot-outs amongst his peers of CEOs of partner agencies.
MTTD and Ministry of Transport came second and third in that order. DVLA also placed second in an eating competition, first and third in other disciplines as well. The actively participated games is part of activities lined up by DVLA to mark its 25th anniversary.
The Aviation Social Centre was filled with enthusiastic staff of the various institutions, including the National Insurance Commission, Ministry of Transport, Metro Mass Transit, Ghana Drive, and the National Road Safety Authority. The rest are the Ghana Shippers Authority, MTTD, STC and DVLA. At the opening of the games, Managing Director of the National Road Safety Authority, Engineer David Osafo Adonteng, observed DVLA running of digitalised system has really transformed the work of its mandate. He used the occasion to court all to be advocates of road safety in Ghana.
For the Deputy Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit, in charge of Operations and Technical, Nana Osei Bamfo, the importance of such occasion is to network for mutual benefits. The teams played Football and Volleyball, basketball, Draft, Oware, Ludo, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess and many other games, all being replicated in other 13 regions in the country.
All CEOs and Deputies of the institutions present took turns in a penalty shoot-out challenge, including DVLA’s Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Operations, Mr. Prince Opoku Adusei. Mr. Adusei, after the games, noted that it is important that staff will have at least, a day or more away from the office setting to unwind, exercise the body to improve their health and to have some time to make merry. He said DVLA will take into consideration for more such activities in a year.
The Board Chairperson of DVLA, Mr. Frank Davis (Esq.), shared his experience after some penalty shoot-outs. He recalled his good-old-days as one of the best in soccer, who played at higher and various levels of competitions. He noted that DVLA has come far from when the it was touted as the most corrupt institution in Ghana and ranked second to the Ghana Police, to what is known now as the best institution, through which many awards have been won to its credit and still counting.
The Authority has accomplished numerous feats over the past 25 years, including the transition from the era of metal driver licenses, manual handwritten booklets, through to the issuance of the current smart driver license card and the online vehicle registration system. DVLA has indeed transformed over the past 25 years and evidence of this transformation abound, with tremendous facelift in the last seven years.
This enviable successes chalked in this past seven years under the leadership of the Chief Executive, Mr. Kwasi Agyeman Busia, focused on “People, Process, and Technology,”. DVLA, with its aggressive innovative drive and ideas, aims to streamline its operations to better serve customers and improve turnaround times. To celebrate this 25 years of successes, a year-long series of events have been planned, including;
a Public Lecture, General Cleaning, Tree Planting, and staff engagement activities, amongst others.
