Arsenal striker Edward Keddar Nketiah has presumably closed the chapter on playing for Ghana’s national team after honouring his debut call-up to the England national team.

Nketiah’s move comes after Black Stars coach Chris Hughton hinted in July that talks were underway to get the forward to play for the Black Stars, second to his first call-up in January 2019.

Meanwhile, speaking in a press conference, Nketiah explained he felt it was not the right time to play for Ghana as it was hard to turn down England’s offer.

“The call-up was there, and the offer on the table was really hard to turn down. It is something I felt was a natural progress for myself at this stage,” the forward said.

The 24-year-old England-born player, who traces his roots to Ghana, also added that he has always aspired to play for the Three Lions.

Nketiah, however, is on Gareth Southgate’s list to play in their slated Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine on September 9 and a friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park three days later.
