Manchester United dismiss Erik Ten Hag

By Ashiadey Dotse

Manchester United have parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to West Ham United on Sunday, October 27, 2024. The loss to a struggling West Ham side capped a difficult start to the season, with the Red Devils languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table. Under Ten Hag’s stewardship this campaign, United managed just three wins, two draws, and four losses in nine matches, securing a mere 11 points out of a possible 27.

The club announced the decision on Monday, October 28, 2024, with a brief statement expressing gratitude for Ten Hag’s contributions. “We are very grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” read the statement.

Ten Hag, 54, took charge at Old Trafford in April 2022, arriving from Ajax with a reputation for developing young talent and implementing an attacking style of play. His tenure saw some initial success, as he guided Manchester United to their first piece of silverware in five years by winning the League Cup, followed by an FA Cup triumph in his second season. However, a lack of consistency in the current campaign ultimately led to his departure.

The Dutchman’s exit marks another managerial change for the club in what has been a turbulent decade since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. United will now embark on the search for a permanent manager in just over a decade as they seek to reclaim former glories and steady the ship after a challenging start to the season.
