Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has launched a defamation lawsuit against Dan Kweku Yeboah and his media outlet, Peace FM.

Filed on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the lawsuit seeks 10 million cedis in damages. Nyantakyi, who once held a prestigious position on the FIFA Council, is challenging allegations made by Yeboah that he embezzled $2 million from the GFA, claims he firmly denies as baseless and defamatory.

Nyantakyi’s legal action extends beyond Yeboah and Peace FM, targeting Pulse Ghana and GhanaWeb as well. These media outlets are accused of disseminating and amplifying Yeboah’s allegations without verifying their factual accuracy. By dragging these platforms into the lawsuit, Nyantakyi aims to hold them accountable for what he perceives as reckless reporting that has tarnished his reputation.

The former GFA President’s lawsuit underscores his insistence on the lack of factual basis for the embezzlement claims. Nyantakyi, who resigned from his position amidst controversy, argues that the allegations have caused significant harm to his public image. He describes the assertions as reckless, emphasizing the need for accountability in journalism and the importance of factual reporting.

The legal document filed by Nyantakyi outlines the defamatory nature of the remarks made by Yeboah and the involved media outlets. It highlights a specific accusation that Nyantakyi personally withdrew $2 million from GFA’s accounts at Unibank for personal use. Nyantakyi vehemently denies these claims, emphasizing that they have no grounding in reality and have unjustly damaged his reputation.
