Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi says he was lucky to have been elected to lead the association. Mr Nyantakyi who is currently serving a 15 year ban from football by FIFA following the “all powerful ” number 12 exposè, was explaining circumstances leading to his rise to become FA President.

His predecessor and former boss Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe had resigned following proposals he made and defended that Chairmanship or Presidents of the Association should be elected and not appointed. This led to agitations and struggle for power and Authority within the FA, something Mr Nyantakyi alluded to. Persons who were involved in such ‘disruptive activities’ within the FA were referred to as ‘wolves in the association’.

Mr Nyantakyi who was speaking on GTVsport+ “Our Passion Our Game” said “there appeared to be an overlap of different levels of authority at the FA and conflict among officers of the Association. At the time we had 3 chairmen in the association who had authority over 3 areas in the organisation…so when Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe came in he realised that this will affect his efficiency so he called the attention of the powers that be that there needed to be a fusion of these powers and that was the beginning of the problem”

He added that ” Since then, FIFA intervened and they Instituted election within the FA and I happened to be lucky to have be voted the first President of the Ghana Football Association “He said for him, the agitations within the rank and file of the FA is “normal ” because it happens everywhere within any human institution.
