The Ghana Esports Federation (GESF) has taken significant strides to bolster eSports in the country. As part of its ongoing initiatives, the GESF has announced an official registration exercise for all athletes under its jurisdiction. This exercise forms a crucial part of the forthcoming Regional Games, aiming to enhance and unearth new talents in the eSports arena. The online registration for Regional Esports athletes is slated to begin on August 20th and will run until September 20th, 2024, via http://www.ghanaesportsfederation.org.

Following the athletes’ registration, regional eSports teams will have their turn from October 10th to November 10th, 2024. The exercise will culminate with the registration of regional game centres from January 12th to February 12th, 2025. This comprehensive, one-month-long initiative seeks to establish an accurate database and identification system for all Esports athletes. Moreover, it aims to facilitate their participation in both national and international events, thus positioning Ghana as a competitive player in the global eSports community.

The GESF’s initiative is not just about registration; it is designed to inform policy development and identify growth opportunities within the eSports sector. By doing so, the Federation hopes to support the establishment of regional eSports hubs tailored to the specific needs of various communities. This targeted approach is expected to significantly contribute to the development and popularisation of eSports across Ghana.

“We entreat all Esports athletes to participate in this important exercise to build an effective database”;  said Igor Boumekpo, President of the Federation.

He further stated that, the Federation is committed to promoting a safe and healthy environment for all athletes, ensuring that their growth and development are safeguarded. This initiative underscores GESF’s dedication to creating a structured and supportive ecosystem for eSports enthusiasts.

As the registration dates approach, the anticipation among Esports athletes in Ghana is palpable. This move by the GESF not only promises to streamline athlete management but also sets the stage for a more organised and competitive eSports landscape in the country.
