Ghana proudly steps onto the global stage as Team Ghana participates in the First Kho Kho World Cup, being held in New Delhi, India, from January 13th to 19th, 2025.
This marks a historic milestone for Ghana as the nation joins 24 countries across six continents, including the USA, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, and host India, in this prestigious event.
Kho Kho, a traditional Indian sport of speed, agility, and strategy, has deep cultural parallels with Ghana’s indigenous game, Antoe Kyere. Recognising this connection, Ghana embraced Kho Kho as part of its commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous sports.
In 2019, a group of passionate students from the University of Ghana attended a Kho Kho coaching camp in India, inspired by their research under the INDIGAME Project. Their efforts laid the foundation for Ghana’s Kho Kho movement, spearheaded by the Ghana Kho Kho Federation.
Team Ghana’s preparation for the World Cup has been marked by rigorous training, challenges, and determination led by Federation President Wonder Goldry Sitsofe Mandel.
Arriving safely in India on January 11th, 2025, Team Ghana is ready to compete with pride and determination. Their participation is a celebration of cultural heritage and a commitment to inspiring the next generation through indigenous sports.
As a pioneer of Kho Kho in West Africa, Ghana’s journey goes beyond the tournament. The Ghana Kho Kho Federation envisions growing the sport across the continent, starting with grassroots programs in schools and communities.
Team Ghana’s debut at the First Kho Kho World Cup is a proud moment in Ghana’s sporting history. This journey is a testament to passion, collaboration, and a commitment to preserving culture through sports. The world is watching, and Ghana is ready to shine.
