Matchday 18 of the Ghana Premier League produced some thrilling encounters, with several teams securing crucial victories to boost their standings.
Asante Kotoko showcased their determination and resilience with a narrow 1-0 victory over Karela United at the Baba Yara Stadium, solidifying their position at the top of the league table. The match, characterised by intense competition, saw Captain Justice Blay step up to convert a crucial penalty in the second half, marking a significant moment in the team’s quest for glory.
In contrast, Hearts of Oak faced a setback in their title aspirations as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Basake Holy Stars. Despite creating several chances, the team struggled to find the back of the net, leaving them to ponder missed opportunities.
Accra Lions kicked off game week 18 with a 1-0 win against former champions Medeama SC. Nigerian forward Lucky Nwafor’s second-half penalty proved decisive, allowing the Lions to secure all three points at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. This victory not only boosts the Lions’ confidence but also emphasises their potential to challenge for higher honours in the league.
FC Samartex experienced a frustrating afternoon as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Dreams FC at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Despite taking the lead through Alhassan Mankuyeli, the defending champions were unable to maintain their advantage as Joseph Esso levelled the score for Dreams FC.
Bechem United delivered an impressive performance in a top-four clash against Nations FC, securing a 2-0 victory at the Nana Gyeabour Park. Isaiah Nyarko’s opening goal and Emmanuel Abban’s late strike showcased Bechem’s attacking prowess and control of the match. This win not only boosts their standing in the league but also reinforces their ambitions for a strong finish this season.
Young Apostles celebrated a vital 1-0 victory over Nsoatreman at the Wenchi Sports Stadium, lifting them further away from relegation concerns. Emmanuel Kyei’s decisive goal delighted the home fans and marked a significant improvement in form for the Apostles.
Legon Cities made a significant leap out of the relegation zone with a hard-fought win over league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars. Fredrick Akatuk’s second-half strike on 51 minutes was enough to make it two wins on the spin for the Royals.
Berekum Chelsea earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Vision FC at the Golden City Park, jumping on consecutive wins in the league.
The decisive moment came in the 28th minute when Emmanuel Sarpong found the back of the net, ensuring Chelsea took all three points.
Heart of Lions made an impressive comeback, securing a 2-1 victory over Aduana Stars at the Kpando Sports Stadium. The win comes after back-to-back defeats, reigniting their hopes of contending for the league title.
