The 2024-25 Ghana Premier League season began with a series of captivating fixtures that left fans both excited and perplexed. The defending champions, Samartex FC, were held to a goalless draw by Dreams FC, signalling that their title defence may not be as straightforward as anticipated. Meanwhile, newbies Vision FC also managed a draw against Berekum Chelsea, showing that they are ready to compete at the top level.

Asante Kotoko SC started their season on a high note by earning a 1-0 victory over their long-standing rivals, Karela United FC. The match, held at the Naa Sheriga Sports Centre in Nareligu, saw the Porcupine Warriors clinch their first three points of the campaign. This win was particularly significant as it ended a challenging seven-game winless streak against Karela. The decisive moment came in the first half, courtesy of new signing Albert Amoah, who marked his debut with a crucial goal.

In a surprising turn of events, Hearts of Oak began their season with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Basake Holy Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium. This loss has raised concerns about the Phobians’ preparedness for the season ahead, especially considering their struggles to avoid relegation in the past two campaigns. Holy Stars, making their Premier League debut, showed no signs of slowing down and took an early lead through Prince Tweneboah’s header in the second minute, leaving Hearts of Oak with much to ponder.

Nsoatreman FC made an impressive start to their season by reigning supreme over newcomers Young Apostles at the Nana Koromansah Park. A goal in either half of the game ensured that Yaw Preko’s side picked up all three points at home, setting a positive tone for their campaign. This victory not only boosted the team’s morale but also demonstrated their intent to challenge for higher positions in the league.

Nations FC and Bechem United clashed it out at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Despite high expectations from the fans, the encounter ended in a goalless draw, with both teams struggling to capitalise on their chances. The match was characterised by intense end-to-end play, but neither side could find the breakthrough, leaving both sets of supporters yearning for more.

Bibiani Gold Stars began their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Legon Cities at Duns Park. The Gold Stars got off to a good start, with forward Samuel Attah Kumi opening the scoring in the second minute. However, Legon Cities fought back and found their equaliser just after the break through Dennis Adoma. Determined to secure all three points, the Gold Stars went ahead again in the 73rd minute with a decisive goal from Gideon Anaba, much to the delight of the home fans.

Medeama SC kicked off their title charge with a narrow 1-0 win over Accra Lions. The only goal of the game was scored by Osah Bernardinho Tetteh in the second half during the hosts’ first official game at the renovated TNA Sports Stadium.
