Ghana’s Black Princesses on Sunday, January 21, 2024, welcomed Senegal in their final round of qualification games as they trashed the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal 5-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The first leg in Senegal saw the Princesses take a comfortable victory in Dakar, as they won by 2:0, giving them a huge advantage going into the second round. Beating Senegal at Kumasi by 5-1 secured an aggregate score of 7-1, granting them qualification to the World Cup in Colombia.
First-half goals from Maafia Nyame and Berline Nyarkoh gave the Black Princesses a good start, as they controlled the game with their possession and chances considering they were behind in the first 15th minute of proceedings.
The second half was no different than the first, as the Black Princesses continued to give the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal a run for their money when Tracy Twum made no mistake from the penalty spot to extend the lead to 3:1. A few minutes later, Berline Nyarkoh added her second of the day and Ghana’s fourth to make it 4:1.
The incredible performance from the black princesses was capped off with a touch of brilliance from substitute Salamatu Abdula, who bamboozled her through the defence of Senegal to make it 5-1.
The Black Princesses, after that big win, will be jetting off to Colombia for the FIFA U-20 World Cup from August 21 to September 22, 2024. They will be joined by countries like Morocco, Nigeria, and Cameroon.
