Ghandour WISA Achievers Awards 2018 Launched

Seeking to reward women in a male dominated industry, this year’s Ghandour WISA Achievers Awards 2018 has been launched at the Boardroom of Ghana Olympics Committee in Accra.
 
The awards will take place on Saturday, September 29, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
 
Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director of Women In Sports Association (WISA), Madam Gloria Commodore, said the aim of the programme is to empower women in sports to excel and also acknowledge them.
 
Madam Commodore announced the list of 26 award winners which included Gloria Peprah of GTV Sports+ and Veronica Commey for media excellence, Hor Halutie – athletics, Samira Sulemana, football and Helena Williams for coaching.
 
The Brands and Communication Director of Ghandour Cosmetics, the headline sponsor of the awards, Irene Donati, said they are proud to be part of sports after supporting entertainment and the arts.
 
She urged girls to take care of their bodies and engage in sports activities.
 
In solidarity, the Technical Director at the National Sports Authority (NSA), Saka Acquaye, appealed to corporate Ghana to emulate the example of Ghandour. He also said the NSA was solidly behind WISA.
 
For his part, the President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah, commended Ghandour for supporting the laudable effort and promised that SWAG will continue to support WISA.
 
The Youth Director of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Emmanuel Olla Williams, appealed to parents to allow their girls to do sports to surge them to greater heights.
 
President of Netball fraternity, Rev Nikoi, who spoke on behalf of the President of the GOC pledged that GOC’s supports for WISA will continue and even get better.
 
A patron of WISA, Madam Gifty Annan Meyers asked that all promises made by reps of various groups be fulfilled.
