Turkish side Başakşehir has officially signed Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku from Portuguese side Arouca on a permanent deal.

The club exercised their option to buy Opoku on a three-year contract following his successful loan spell. This marks a significant move for both the player and the club, as they look to strengthen their squad for upcoming challenges.

During his loan spell last season, Opoku made a considerable impact on Başakşehir’s defense. His solid performances and leadership on the field were crucial in helping the team secure a spot in the UEFA Conference League.

His ability to read the game and make timely interventions earned him the admiration of fans and coaches.

Opoku’s journey from playing in Portugal to making a name for himself in Turkey is a testament to his hard work and dedication. His transition to Turkish football seemed seamless, as he quickly adapted to the style of play and became an integral part of Başakşehir’s defensive lineup.

Opoku contributed hugely during his loan spell with Başakşehir, as he scored four goals in 28 appearances in the 2023–2024 season. The decision to sign the 25-year-old permanently reflects Başakşehir’s commitment to building a robust team capable of competing on multiple fronts.

Opoku’s performance on the club level earned him a spot in the Black Stars in October 2023, where he currently holds three caps for the team with one goal scored.
