FC Basel’s rising star Jonas Adjetey Adjei has been called up to replace the injured Alexander Djiku in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The 20-year-old defender, who has been impressive in the Swiss Super League, is set to join the Black Stars for the first time. Djiku suffered a thigh injury during a league match for Fenerbahce on Friday, August 30, 2024 prompting head coach Otto Addo to quickly find a suitable replacement.

Adjetey’s football journey is nothing short of inspiring.

He began his career at the Teshie Football Academy, where his talent was first spotted.

From there, he moved to Accra Great Olympics, and then to Berekum Chelsea, where he continued to hone his skills. His impressive performances eventually led to a move to FC Basel, where he has been making a significant impact.

The timing of Adjetey’s call-up couldn’t be more critical. Ghana is set to face Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 5, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. This will be followed by another crucial match against Niger at Stade Municipal de Berkane on September 9.

Both games are vital for Ghana’s quest to secure a spot in the next Africa Cup of Nations.

As Adjetey joins the Black Stars, all eyes will be on him to see how he performs on the international stage.

His journey from a local football academy to the national team is a testament to his hard work and determination.

With two crucial matches ahead, Adjetey’s debut could be a defining moment in his burgeoning career, adding another exciting chapter to his already remarkable story.
