On Monday, January 22, 2024, Ghana’s Black Stars were eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations group stage. This makes it the second consecutive season that Ghana has faced a disappointing setback in the AFCON.
The Black Stars had qualification written all over the game in the 89th minute but carelessly gave it away by allowing Mozambique to get back into the game with two late 90th-minute goals.
Jordan Ayew for the Black Stars calmly slotted home two quality penalties to give Ghanaians some hope moving forward. Jordan Ayew holds an impeccable record from the spot. Jordan in his career has played 12 penalties and scored all 12 of them.
This remarkable feat has been given attention by some former national team goalkeepers, like Fatawu Dawuda, who in some past interviews spoke about Jordan being one of the best penalty-takers in the world.
Normally, during training, the coach gives the team an opportunity to do some 15-minute practice. On the national team, I do penalty practice with Jordan, and he will dare me to save them for 50 dollars. Could you believe I couldn’t even save one of his penalties? Jordan Ayew is just up there when it comes to penalties, said former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dawuda.
Jordan Ayew will look to extend this remarkable milestone of not missing a penalty, as it will go down as one of the best 100 percent records in football history.
