Joseph Paintsil has become the latest African footballer to fall victim to racial abuse in Major League Soccer. The Ghanaian was racially abused during a heated derby match between his club, Los Angeles Galaxy, and Los Angeles FC.

The Ghanaian winger became the target point for most LA Galaxy fans following a 2-1 defeat at the hands of their rival LA FC. Paintsil falling victim to racial abuse on social media outlines how badly racism has taken over the beautiful game of football.

“LA Galaxy forward Joseph Paintsil was the victim of a racist social media incident following Saturday’s match against LA FC. The club stands with Joseph and anyone who has suffered racist abuse through social media and anywhere else.

The incident was immediately reported to Major League Soccer. We are working with the MLS to ensure Joseph has all the resources and support he needs at this time.

“There is no place for racism in our community, in our league, or anywhere else in society,” a statement released by the LA Galaxy on social media said.

The investigation has already started as the incident has been reported to Major League Soccer to look into the incident and fish out the culprit. After reporting the incident to the MLS, LA Galaxy has proven to stand by their player until the incident is looked at.
