The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has honoured the memory of the late Junior Manuel Agogo, a former Ghanaian footballer, on the fifth anniversary of his passing.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), the country’s governing football body expressed that Agogo will forever remain in the hearts of Ghanaians. The message, which resonated deeply with fans and football enthusiasts, read: “Remembering a legend! Today marks 5 years since we lost Junior Agogo. Thank you for all the memories! Forever in our hearts. Forever Black Star.”
Junior Agogo, who was born in England, made a significant impact on Ghanaian football after switching his nationality to Ghana in 2006. Although he changed his national allegiance in time for the 2006 World Cup, Agogo did not make the squad for the tournament. However, his moment to shine came during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which was held in Ghana. Agogo’s performance in the tournament solidified his place in the hearts of many Ghanaians and football fans.
During his international career, Agogo earned 27 caps for the Black Stars, Ghana’s national team, between 2006 and 2009. In those appearances, he scored a total of 12 goals, showcasing his talent and dedication on the field. His contributions were not just limited to his goal-scoring abilities but also included his overall impact on the team’s performance and morale.
