Kotoko out to upset Nkana
The skipper of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Amos Frimpong, believes the Porcupine Warriors need a positive result against Zambian side, Nkana Red Devils, to brighten their chances of qualifying from the CAF Confederation Cup group.
Kotoko will face the Zambians in Kitwe on Sunday in their third Group C game of the continental campaign and Frimpong expects his teammates to work hard to avoid losing away.
The Porcupine Warriors are third in an open Group C which, has all four teams: namely ZESCO United, Al Hilal, Kotoko and Nkana, possessing three points from two matches respectively.
In an interview with the Graphic Sports, the 26-year-old captain explained that Kotoko needed to win all three home games in Kumasi and force either a win or draw away to stand a chance of making it from the group.
“We need a positive result against Nkana in order to enhance our chances of qualification from the group because it is an open one.
“As for our three home matches, they are must-wins for us so I think the focus should be on the away matches and how we will be able to get good results,” he said.
Kotoko recovered from their first loss to Al Hilal of Sudan to narrowly edge out group leaders, ZESCO, 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium last Wednesday.
Coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor of Kotoko faces a stern test to condition his charges ahead of the crucial game as they seek to avoid a second defeat.
Players such as Emmanuel Gyamfi, Songne Yacouba, Kwame Bonsu, Felix Annan and Augustine Sefa, among others, must rise to the occasion to help the Porcupine Warriors to get a positive result away from home.
Nkana, on the other hand, managed to beat Al Hilal 2-1 at home in midweek, having lost their first group game to ZESCO and will be looking forward to building upon that victory at home on Sunday.
