The Management of Asante Kotoko SC, alongside the leadership of its supporters, has unveiled plans for a night of vigil dedicated to the memory of their late supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, fondly known as Pooley.
This solemn gathering is set to take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where fans and community members will come together to commemorate the life of a beloved member of the Kotoko family.
The vigil serves not only to honour Pooley but also to continue the call for justice following his tragic passing. As the club reaches out to all supporter groups, football enthusiasts, and the public, it emphasises the importance of unity during this difficult time. “We urge all attendees to come along with candles as we come together to honour the memory of our departed brother,” stated the club management in an official release.
In addition to paying tribute, the vigil represents a broader initiative aimed at advocating for safety and security reforms within Ghanaian football. The management and supporters of Asante Kotoko SC are determined to ensure that such tragic incidents do not recur, highlighting the need for improved measures at match venues. This gathering is a poignant reminder of the need for accountability and the importance of safeguarding the well-being of fans.
The heartfelt initiative is a testament to the strong sense of community within the Asante Kotoko fraternity. Supporters are expected to come together in solidarity, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to both honouring Pooley’s memory and pushing for necessary changes in the football landscape. The club’s leadership has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans and the wider community.
