Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi spoke with GTV Sports Plus on Friday, January 25, about the major issues affecting our national team over the last four years.

He emphasized that the problem with the national team is a psychological one.

Mr. Nyantakyi called on the FA to put things in place and get a team psychologist who can grow the team out in times of distress when things begin to get tough in tournaments.

He hinted that this is the main reason Ghana has been poor in the AFCON tournament since 2019.

“The failure to win the trophy is not bad luck but a psychological problem. We must emphasize the psychology of football,” said Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi.

He added that having a psychologist on the team will help kill a lot of crowd frights. A team psychologist can talk you out when you feel you are not ready for the game because of the previous experience you had in your past games, Mr. Nyantakyi mentioned.

Mr. Nyantakyi shared a situation whereby former coach Kwesi Appiah openly told one of his players that he would be starting in the next game, but the player immediately reacted by saying he wanted to start from the bench because he was mentally not prepared to start considering some poor showing in his performance whenever he starts.

He explained that this is where the team psychologist comes in.
