Former Black Stars striker, Majeed Waris, has described Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a “big shame.”
For the first time in 20 years, the senior national team will miss out on Africa’s biggest football tournament after finishing last in Group F with just three points. Ghana failed to win any of their six qualifying matches, recording three draws and three defeats.
The poor performance has sparked outrage among fans, with many calling for the technical team, led by Otto Addo, to be dissolved.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Waris expressed his disappointment, stating, “As someone who has played for the national team and knows what qualifying means to the country, this is a big shame. Something must be done about it.”
He added, “We may not fully feel the pain now, but when the tournament begins, and we see other nations celebrating, the reality of missing out will hit us harder.”
Waris emphasized the need for reflection and improvement to ensure Ghana qualifies for the next edition of AFCON.
The 2025 AFCON will be hosted in Morocco.
