Promising young talent Mohamed Diomande, who was recently called up to be part of coach Otto Addo’s 26-man squad ahead of Ghana’s international friendly matches against Nigeria and Uganda, has declined the offer to feature for Ghana now. He was also named in Côte d’Ivoire’s U23 squad.

Mohamed Diomande’s nationality traces back to Cote d’Ivoire, where he started his infancy, but he later moved to Ghana and joined one of the biggest academies in the world in the name of Right to Dream Academy before making a breakthrough to Europe as he joined FC Nordsjaelland and later moved to Rangers, where he plays now.

The 22-year-old holds the choice to either play for Ghana or Côte d’Ivoire, as he is yet to make a senior national appearance in his career as a professional footballer. His recent call into the Ghanaian national team and the Ivorian U23 side has placed him in a difficult corner, leaving him to ask for some time to think things through before making any final decision.

Mohamed Diomande disclosed this vital information on his Instagram page, explaining his decision to decline the Black Stars call-up.

“I am equally aware of the interest in my host country, Ghana, where I have spent more than 7 years of my life and training as a footballer.

However, a lot has been said, but I am in direct contact with the manager concerned by my decision, and it is he who holds the real information about my choice.”

Ghana will take on Nigeria on March 22nd before facing Uganda on March 26th.
