The Tokyo Olympic Games open today amid concerns over the COVID 19 pandemic.
More than 11,000 athletes from 207 countries will compete over the next couple of weeks, to win medals. About 48 point eight percent of athletes competing at the Tokyo Olympics are women which is said to be a record figure.
With Tokyo in a state of emergency throughout the Olympics after a spike in Covid-19 infections, the Games have come under huge criticism from the Japanese public, majority of whom have said they want the Olympics to be canceled or postponed again.
Among the safety precautions are holding the Games behind closed doors, and athletes wearing face masks at all times, except when eating, drinking, training, competing, or sleeping.
They will also be tested for Covid-19 every day.
