The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has firmly denied allegations suggesting that Nora Hauptle’s exit from her role as head coach of the Black Queens was linked to a deficiency of friendly matches. Hauptle, who took the reins in 2023, chose not to renew her contract, prompting discussions about the factors influencing her decision.

Asante Twum emphasised that the Black Queens had engaged in several friendly matches during Hauptle’s tenure, including encounters against teams like Benin and Japan. These matches were part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The GFA official highlighted that the only month without a scheduled friendly was November, attributing this gap to a lack of support from the Sports Ministry.

The clarification from the GFA comes in the wake of mounting speculation regarding the reasons behind Hauptle’s departure. Many in the football community had pointed to the absence of preparation games as a potential cause for her decision not to continue with the Black Queens. However, Asante Twum’s remarks aim to dispel these rumours and provide a clearer picture of the team’s activities during Hauptle’s coaching period.

Following her exit from the Black Queens, Hauptle has secured a new position as the head coach of Zambia’s Copper Queens, signing a three-year deal. This move marks a significant step in her coaching career, as she takes on the challenge of leading another national team in international competitions.

As the GFA continues to navigate the transition following Hauptle’s departure, the focus remains on preparing the Black Queens for their upcoming challenges. The association’s commitment to providing adequate support and resources for the team will be crucial as they aim to make a strong showing in the 2025 WAFCON.
