Black Stars coach Otto Addo has explained why he chose Jordan Ayew to captain the team for the final games of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Last month, when Thomas Partey missed the games against Sudan, Mohammed Kudus was made captain. This decision was criticized, as some thought Alexander Djiku or Jordan Ayew should have been given the role instead.

On Thursday, after announcing the squad for the last games against Angola and Niger, Otto Addo confirmed that Jordan Ayew will lead the team.

He explained that Ayew will captain the Black Stars in Partey’s absence because he feels Mohammed Kudus needs more time to grow into a leadership role.
