Story by Michael Okuley, Doha
Head coach of the senior national team Otto Addo has confirmed their readiness for the opening game of the Qatar 2022 World Cup on Thursday. Ghana opens her campaign against European giants Portugal at Stadium 974 in Doha. The Black Stars are making their fourth appearance after making their debut in 2006 and missed out on the last edition, which was held in Russia.
Speaking to journalists at the mandatory press conference ahead of the Thursday encounter, the former Black Stars player believes Ghana has the quality to face Portugal.
“I feel very honoured to be part of the team on and off the pitch. We have the quality to compete with them [Portugal] but we have to be brave and confident to go into such games. Surely the players are ready. We have to defend well looking at how the games are going in the competition.”
Black Stars are hoping to erase the bad memories of 2014 in this year’s Mundial by going beyond the quarterfinals the team reached in 2010.
