President of Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs, Nana Sam Brew-Butler says it is inappropriate for anyone outside to select a player for a Coach.
Answering the question on whether the FA, government or individual should have a say in picking a player, on GTV SPORTS + Show, #SavingOurPassion Mr. Brew-Butler said a Coach comes with his own philosophy on how he wants a team to play, therefore Coaches must be given the opportunity to do so.
“I never did, I never interfered, but I ask questions, for instance why Carl and not Kwesi Nyantakyi? We are all able to appreciate players but it is not my job to select them” he said.
Mr Brew-Butler said football is an industry because people make a lot of money out of it, therefore the government must look at the long term development of the industry. He added that the government should invest more in players, especially the younger ones.
He indicated that if proper structure is put in place, the selection of players would be easier, arguing that the players would perform credibly which would help bring back the passion for football.
“If you have a good technical directorate and data stored on the players it will help in decision making. The Coach has the prerogative to decide whom to call”.
He noted that there must be logistics, due diligence and ability of people to perform on the part of every individual.
