The Black Princesses advanced to the semifinals of the African Games Women’s football event on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, after defeating Tanzania 2-1 at Cape Coast Stadium.
The match began with Tanzania having to see much of the ball, leaving the Black Princesses frustrated as they pushed to retain their composure before the Tanzanians took total control of the game. Tanzania made the most of their chances as they took the lead in the 23rd minute with a goal from Hasnath Ubamba.
Ghana, after going down in the early minutes of the game, didn’t allow that to affect their momentum moving forward, as they pulled one back with a superb header from Tracey Twum in the dying minutes of the first half, which took her total goal tally in the tournament to three.
The second half saw the Black Princesses take charge of the game as they gave their Tanzanians a tough fight. They were utterly dominant in all areas. Their efforts were eventually rewarded with a game-winning goal from Mukarama Abdulai, securing a 2:1 victory for the Princesses.
The Black Princesses will play Uganda on Friday, March 12, 2024, in their next group encounter, as they will aim to win it, although their qualification spot in the semifinal stage is already secured.
