The Accra West Regional Council of the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) of TUC-Ghana, in collaboration with Dansoman Keep Fit Club, has organised its inaugural fun games.
The event held on the 8th of July, 2023, at Dansoman attracted participants from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), the State Housing Corporation, the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the host team, Dansoman Keep Fit Club.
They competed in Football, Volleyball, Tug of Peace, Ludu, Playing Cards, Draught and Table Tennis.
It seeks to foster camaraderie, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among the public utility workers in the region. The fun games also created a platform for strengthening the professional bonds of the participating institutions.
Ghana Water Company Limited–Accra West Divisional Union emerged as the winners of the football game. The GWCL team was also awarded the prestigious Overall Best Division (Organisation) Trophy.
The State Housing Company Ltd. (SHC) came second in the overall rankings, followed by the Electricity Company of Ghana Projects Office, taking the third spot.
The Senior Industrial Relations Officer in Charge of the Region, Mr. Isaac Yaotey Ako Jr., commended participants for the successful maiden programme, and expressed the hope that it will build stronger connections within the sector.
“We believe that promoting a healthy work-life balance is essential, and these fun games will contribute to achieving that,” he added.
He thanked the host team, Dansoman Keep Fit Club, Management and Unionised staff of all the participating divisions, which are ECG Project Office, ECG Head Office, ECG Training School, ECG Materials Depot, ECG Accra West Region, GWCL Accra West Region, GWCL ATMA Production, SHC Ltd., CWSA, and supporters for making the event a success.
As part of the activities for the day, the Dansoman Keep Fit Club (DKFC) / Power Gym was officially inaugurated to serve the people of Dansoman and its environs with a gym facility.
The Chairman of Dansoman Keep Fit Club, Mr. Benjamin Ahulu, welcomed the collaboration with the workers’ groups aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly.
