The national senior female football team, Black Queens, take on Togo in their second Group A match today after starting the 2019 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Tournament on a bright note with a 2-0 walloping of their Senegalese counterparts at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Abidjan last Wednesday.

Two second half goals by Hasaacas Ladies defender, Evelyn Badu and Mukarama Abdulai secured the significant victory for the Queens to affirm their readiness to successfully defend the title they won last year.

Despite the win, the Ghanaians are currently second on the Group A table behind host nation Cote d’Ivoire who defeated Togo 5-0 in the opening match.

After disposing of Senegal, Coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo and her charges are set to add Togo to their list of victims today at the Stade de Parc de Sports in Abidjan in their quest to retain the title.

Although both Ghana and Togo participated in the first edition of the tournament, their path never crossed as they found themselves in different groups, making today’s encounter a dicey one.

In a post-match interview last Wednesday, Coach Tagoe-Quarcoo said she would not underrate the Togolese despite the fact that they were beaten 5-0 by the Ivorians in their opening match.

For her, Ghana will not relent on their efforts as they intend to marshal every available strategy to enable them to come out victorious.

Cote d’Ivoire will play Senegal in the other Group A game ahead of the Ghana versus Togo fixture at the Stade du Parc des Sports.

The Queens will play the Ivorians on Monday in their final group game to determine which teams make it to the semi-finals.
