Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted in Ivory Coast, Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has named a 27-man squad that will make it to the biggest continental showpiece.
Coach Hughton included three players from the Ghana Premier League, including Richmond Lamptey (Kotoko), Jonathan Sowah (Medeama), and Abdul Fatawu Hamid (Kotoko).
However, it is Kotoko‘s Richmond Lamptey who is trending on all social media platforms for his inclusion.
With stats including 5 assists in 12 matches, the deputy Kotoko captain will be making his debut AFCON appearance, and netizens are very excited for him.

The Richmond Lamptey for AFCON agenda was initiated by the "Nana Yaw Boys" on X. That's how influential they are. You disrespect and ignore them at your own peril. @mensfordowusu @Michael69649233 @Listo_Mens @AsuoGyebi16 https://t.co/Mmw8FJpOQm

Happy for Richmond Lamptey. Almost quit the sport but for Nana Yaw Amponsah’s unflinching support & intervention. Also never underestimate pressure from fans especially the red side — there’s reason Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana. This is a big win for fans. He’s earned it! https://t.co/Bb1fxWSc2Y
