SAL2019 Beach Games: Ghana wins silver to wrap campaign

Team Ghana finished its campaign in the maiden edition of the Africa Beach Games with a silver medal in the volleyball competition.

Ghana who were tipped to win the ultimate due to their scintillating performance enroute to the finals especially felling off African giants Morocco were shockingly injected with two straight set against Mozambique in the final.

With the medal in sight, Ghana’s karate kata and freestyle football finished fourth whiles the 3×3 basketball managed a quarter final berth.

The silver medal feat by the volleyball team has qualified Ghana for the world Beach Games to be staged in Doha in October this year.

“I’m not disappointed. It’s a stepping stone in a different direction. We lacked so many things during our preparation but did our best despite the challenge. We are appealing to the authorities in charge of sports to help us train and deliver in the World Beach Games after our qualification,” captain of the volleyball team, Kelvin Carboo, said after their final loss to Mozambique.

The West Africa side was ranked 15th on the medal table out of the18 countries that won medals.

Fifty-four (54) countries participated in 11 disciplines of the 14 day event organized by ANOCA in Sal, Cape Verde.

Per the travel arrangements, first batch of the team is expected to land in Kotoka International Airport on Tuesday, 25th June 2019.

Team Ghana’s participation was made possible following the financial cushioning from Toyota Ghana Limited, Ashfoam Ghana Limited, Allied Oil and Republic Bank.
