Government budget can't be used to develop sports- Alan Kyerematen

By Nana Kwame Bediako

At a recent media engagement held on Tuesday, 13th August, 2024, Alan Kyerematen, the leader of the Movement for Change, made a statement regarding the development of sports in Ghana as he pledged to place the private sector in charge of sports to accelerate future successes if elected.

Alan emphasized that relying solely on government budgets to develop the sports sector is an impractical approach. “If government thinks that they can use government budget to develop sports, it is not going to happen,” he declared. This statement suggests a need for alternative methods and resources to foster growth and excellence in sports.

The leader of the Movement for Change believes that private investment and community engagement are crucial for the advancement of sports. He argued that the involvement of private entities could bring in the much-needed funds, expertise, and infrastructure that government budgets alone cannot provide.

“It is all about government empowering the private sector to establish sports academies and infrastructure of the highest standard. If a private person is investing, he will make sure that he does it very well and he will maintain them,” said Alan.
