National Sports Authority to manage newly built TnA Stadium

By Nana Kwame Bediako

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has officially handed over the newly built and refurbished Tarkwa & Abosso (T&A) Stadium to the National Sports Authority.

The stadium, located in Tarkwa in the Western Region, serves as the home ground for Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC. The handover ceremony took place on Friday, August 16, marking a significant milestone for sports infrastructure in the region.

Work on the T&A Stadium commenced four years ago and was completed in June 2024 at a cost of US$16.2 million. Razak Abubakar, the Executive Secretary of Gold Fields Foundation confirmed the extensive renovation project. The revamped facility promises to enhance the sporting experience for both athletes and fans, potentially boosting local sports development.

The Gold Fields Foundation emphasized that the National Sports Authority (NSA) will be responsible for managing the stadium, with additional support from the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly. “The facility was in existence before we started the renovation, and the National Sports Authority were the managers, so it’s only fair they continue with it, and the Assembly supports them,” stated Razak Abubakar.

Razak Abubakar assured the public that the T&A Stadium will not suffer the same fate as other sporting facilities in the country, which have often faced neglect and poor management.

“We can assure that this facility will not be handled like the other sporting facilities in the country,” he affirmed.

The inauguration of the refurbished T&A Stadium marks a new chapter for sports in Tarkwa and the Western Region. With modern amenities and improved infrastructure, the stadium is set to become a hub for local and national sports events, fostering community spirit and athletic excellence.
