The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans for specialized training aimed at new recruits in sports policing. This initiative comes in response to the growing need for effective crowd management and match-day safety. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum shared these developments during an interview with GTV Sports Plus, emphasizing the urgency and importance of the program.

Henry Asante Twum further elaborated on the recent appointment of sports policing coordinators by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in all 16 regions of Ghana. “We received information from the IGP that he has appointed sports policing coordinators in all the 16 regions and this is as a-result of the meeting we had with the IGP last week”.

The GFA has also invited representatives from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to Ghana in September 2025 to facilitate the training sessions. “We got in touch with CAF for them to send experts to Accra to come and train our police. Unfortunately, other countries have also put in similar requests. Our request has been approved but it can only take place in September”; Henry Asante Twum affirmed.

This collaboration is expected to equip the recruits with essential skills and knowledge necessary to ensure a safe environment for fans and players. By enhancing the capabilities of sports policing, the GFA aims to address previous security concerns that have marred the enjoyment of football matches.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the GFA to create a safer atmosphere for football enthusiasts and to encourage more fans to attend matches without fear. By investing in the training of sports policing recruits, the GFA aims to foster trust and confidence among supporters, which is vital for the growth and popularity of the sport in the country.
