An invitational tournament involving 15 Premier League sides and 38 Division One League Clubs begins on the 23rd of September 2018.
The tournament dubbed “StarTimes Cup” is being sponsored by pay-TV broadcaster, StarTimes.
The winner of the “StarTimes Cup” would pocket GH₵ 40,000 whiles the runners-up earns GH₵ 10,000. This has been confirmed by the chairman of Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo to GNA Sports.
He said every participating will get an appearance fee, and the higher you progress, the more cash prizes you get.
Concerning the format for the “StarTimes Cup”, GHALCA reveals the 38 Division One League clubs will engage in the preliminary stages of the tournament.
The 15 winner from that round will then progress to join 15 Premier League clubs in the next stage.
The 30 teams would then engaged in series of knockout rounds to pick the final eight teams which will then be put into two groups of four each.
From there, the final two top teams will advance to the final to play for the trophy.
Meanwhile, Vice chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Alex Ackumey says they are considering re-naming the upcoming “StarTimes Cup” after the late Kofi Annan.
In an interview with Kumasi-based radion station, Oyerepa FM, Alex Ackumey disclosed that his outfit are contemplating on re-naming the competition to honour the late former United Nation General Secretary, Kofi Annan.
