Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala has officially announced his departure from Asante Kotoko, bringing an end to his two-year stint with the Ghanaian giants. Mukwala’s contract with Kotoko expired, and the player has decided not to renew it, choosing instead to explore new opportunities.
During his time with Kotoko, Mukwala proved to be a prolific goal-scorer, netting 14 goals in 28 games in the 2023–2024 Ghana Premier League. In his debut season with the Porcupine Worriers, he put up 11 goals in 31 appearances for his side. His impressive form saw him finish second on the GPL top scorers list in the just ended 2023-2024 season, making him a fan favourite among the Porcupine Warriors faithful.
Mukwala joined Kotoko on a two-year deal after leaving Ugandan side Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club. His arrival at Kotoko was seen as a major coup for the club, and he quickly repaid the faith shown in him by delivering crucial goals.
The striker’s departure is a significant blow to Kotoko, who will now be forced to search for a replacement to fill the void left by Mukwala’s exit. Despite this, the club has expressed its gratitude to Mukwala for his contributions during his time with the team and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
Mukwala’s next destination is currently unknown, but the striker is expected to attract interest from several clubs across Africa and beyond. With his impressive goal-scoring record and experience playing in the Ghana Premier League, Mukwala is likely to be a hot commodity on the transfer market.
