The 2023 GOLDFIELDS PGA Golf championship has produced a new winner following the triumph of Sunday Olapade.

The Nigerian scored 286 to beat off competition from Kojo Barnni and Vincent Torgah in the 4-day tournament to mark the 10th anniversary of the championship in Tarkwa-Darmang.

Defending champion and three-time winner Kojo Barnni was in the pole position to make it back-to-back but the Nigerian clawed back to push the game to a tie during the hole 16. A two-stroke decider was employed to break the tie which won him the enviable accolade.

The annual event has been serving as a platform for professional golfers in Ghana and some part of the West African countries.

Sunday Olapade won the tournament with a cash prize of GHC80,000 and the glittering trophy. The second position was captured by Kojo Barnni while Vincent Torgah walked away with the 3rd position.

“It was not an easy game playing against these guys. They know the course more than me because I come here once a year. Kojo is a very good golfer and the strategy was just to follow him keenly and when I had the opportunity at hole 15 I took it. I feel extremely honoured and happy to be the champion of the 10th anniversary of the Goldfields PGA Championship”.
