Sonrise Christian Senior High School commissions ultra-modern tennis court

The Management of Sonrise Christian Senior High School has commissioned an ultra-modern mini-tennis court on its campus, located on the Ho-Aflao road to promote and affirm its commitment to the development of tennis in the Volta Region.

The state-of-the-art facility, engineered by 5 Js Constructions features a seating capacity of over 400, along with two washrooms and changing areas.

The Sonrise Tennis Court aims to develop students’ tennis skills and promote competitive play at the highest level.

During the commissioning ceremony, children aged 6-18 took part in a tennis clinic, marking the official opening of the Sonrise Tennis Court to the public, particularly children.

The school’s founder and administrator, Mr. Joseph Dzamesi, emphasized the importance of balancing academics with sports and extracurricular activities.

“We believe that at Sonrise an educated person must be a world-class individual, solid academically, and have the balance to do sports and other curricular activities.” He said.

“We also believe that this court will give our students an additional opportunity to develop their talent in tennis and develop interest accross the region”, Mr Dzamesi added.

Tennis Administrator and member of the Ghana Tennis Foundation, Mr. Roger Crawford, lauded the initiative, emphasizing the advantages of combining academics with tennis.

He also urged parents to encourage their children to participate in tennis, citing its potential and future opportunities.

“This is amazing and a great initiative, the fact that it is also in a school, it will add value not just to the student but to the community, Tennis goes with academics for a long time we have had it separated, and this is an opportunity to do both at the same time, exactly what is in the states,” Mr. Crawford said.

“Tennis is a great industry allow your kids to play tennis, it has a great future, you have no idea the doors and opportunities it will open to them” He added.

Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Madam Joyce Datsa, advised students and potential tennis players to demonstrate determination and discipline in their pursuit of tennis.

Present at the ceremony was Prof. Ben. Q. Honyenuga, Vice Chancellor of Ho Technical University who doubles as Patron of the Ho Tennis Club, (HTC) members of HTC, Tennis enthusiasts as well as representatives from the USA and Germany.

The Sonrise Tennis Court joins existing facilities in Sogakope, Ho, and Kpando, further expanding tennis opportunities in the Volta Region.
