Volta Rangers FC have gained promotion to the National Division One League after whipping Aflao Agbogba 1-0 in the Volta Regional Division Two Middle League finals at the Ho Sports Stadium.
The Middle League is the competitive stage for zonal champions after the preliminaries across eight football zones in the region.
The eight zonal champions include Volta Rangers FC, Akatsi Kickers FC, Sokpoe Trinity Stars FC, and Roberto FC. The rest are Sharp SC, Nkwanta Young Desert Warriors, and VORA SC.
The teams were grouped into A and B in a week-long football tournament.
Agbogba FC and Volta Rangers FC both topped their groups with 7 points each after 3 matches to book a place for the final.
Striker Usman Safianu of Volta Rangers scored in the 21st minute to give Volta Rangers an early advantage to end the first half. Agbogba FC came strong and aggressive but couldn’t take their chances.
Rangers winger, Justice Abugre was brought down in the penalty box which handed them an opportunity to double their lead but captain Hafiz Rahman hit the crossbar.
The peoples club held on to their lead until Referee Selorm Bless blew the final whistle to end the game.
Goalkeeper Iddrisu Sulemana of Volta Rangers was adjudged Man of the Match for his exceptional performance on the day.
He kept 4 clean sheets throughout the Middle League, making his performance an impressive one.
Volta Rangers will join regional compatriots, Kpando Hearts of Lions and Akatsi All-Stars who finished 4th and 6th respectively in last season’s National Division One League in Zone 3.
