Ghana’s Black Satellites lost 2-1 to Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in the final of the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship, held in Togo on Wednesday night.

Nigeria took an early lead with two goals scored by Kparabo Arieri in the first half. Ghana’s Jerry Afriyie managed to score 15 minutes before the end, reducing Nigeria’s lead to 2-1 and creating a tense finish. Despite Ghana’s efforts to equalise, Nigeria held on to win the game.

Afriyie, who played well throughout the tournament, finished as the top scorer with five goals in five matches. He was awarded both the Most Valuable Player and the Golden Boot.

Both Ghana and Nigeria have secured spots in the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025. This tournament will also serve as the qualifier for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, with the top four teams earning automatic spots.
