Ghana Captain Andre Ayew has set his sight on defeating Uruguay in the final group game on Friday.
The Black Stars who are bent on qualifying from the group stage must account for old nemesis Uruguay in a must-win encounter at Al Janoub Stadium at Al Waklrah.
With the 3 points Ghana is having in the tournament, the team needs at least a draw against La Celeste with the hopes of Portugal avoiding defeats against South Korea in the other group game.
Ghana was denied a semi-final qualification during the 2021 World Cup in South Africa through Luis Suarez’s handball.
Whiles, many Ghanaians are calling for an act of revenge against the South Americans, Skipper Andre Ayew says the focus of the team is to qualify and not to avenge any kind of revenge.
“I’m the only one who was in the squad when that happened, so the others don’t know how we felt but everyone felt bad. For me, I just want to get into the next stage so if it is revenge or not, we would go with the same determination and the same desire to win because we want to go to the next stage”.
“So, it’s not a matter of revenge, it is just a matter of us getting into the next stage.”
Black Stars are second on the Group H table with 3 points behind leaders Portugal and above South Korea and Uruguay who are on a point each.
