Ghana Premier League champions Medeama suffered a huge setback away from home, as they were beaten by Tanzanian side Young Africans SC by 3-0 in the second leg group game between the two side.

This defeat on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Benjamin Mkhapa Stadium in Daresalaam, Tanzania, dims the hopes of the yellow and mauve boys in their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage from the group stage.

After conceding the first goal in the 34th minute, Medeama were handed the chance to get back into the game from the penalty spot, but unfortunately, their star striker, Jonathan Sowah, failed to capitalize on the chance.

Medeama found themselves on the wrong side of things as their penalty spot miss was punished, with Young Africans SC adding another two more goals to keep their lead intact, making matters worse for the Ghanaian side. Jonathan Sowah was handed a red card as the game went on.

Medeama fall to 3rd place in group D, making their chances of advancing from the group stage more problematic, with Algerian champions CR Belouizdad, who have a game in hand, standing a chance of moving ahead of them.
