The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the appointment of Black Stars legends, Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan as Ambassadors for the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship. The tournament, scheduled to take place in Accra from April 21 to April 26, 2025, promises to be an exciting showcase of young football talent from across the continent.
The 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship has grown significantly since its launch in April 2022, with this year’s event featuring national school teams from 46 countries.
The zonal qualifiers, conducted between October 2024 and January 2025, have set the stage for a thrilling continental final. The tournament will bring together the champions of the 2023-2024 boys’ and girls’ teams, along with winners from CAF’s six zones and the host nation, Ghana.
The competition offers a substantial prize pool of $650,000, with the winning school receiving $300,000, the runner-up earning $200,000, and the third-place finisher taking home $150,000. This significant investment in youth football development is expected to have a lasting impact on the sport in Africa.
As Ambassadors, Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan will play a key role in promoting the tournament and inspiring the young participants. Both legends have had illustrious careers, with Abedi Pele being a three-time African Footballer of the Year and Asamoah Gyan being Ghana’s all-time leading scorer.
