The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams and the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, conducted an urgent inspection of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, March 15, 2025. The visit came just days before the Black Stars’ critical Matchday five encounter against Chad. With the national team set to regroup on Monday, March 17, for their first training session, the inspection revealed critical issues that needed immediate attention to ensure a safe and conducive environment for the players and fans.

During the inspection, some few problems were identified with the stadium’s floodlights not functioning and in a deteriorating state. This raised significant concerns about safety and compliance with international standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). In response, the Sports Minister directed the NSA to carry out urgent repairs, to resolve the issues before the team begins training. Presidential Staffer Stan Dogbe, who was also part of the inspection team, received a detailed report on the stadium’s poor condition.

The Black Stars, comprising 23 players, are expected to arrive in Accra on Monday, March 17, ahead of their high-stakes match against Chad on Friday, March 21. The team will undergo intensive training sessions from Monday through Thursday to prepare for the fixture. With the stakes high, the players and technical staff will need a safe and well-maintained facility to focus on their preparations without distractions.

Following the match against Chad, the Black Stars will travel to Morocco for their Matchday six encounter against Madagascar. The game is scheduled to take place on Monday, March 24, at the Stade Mimoun Al Arsi in Morocco. This fixture will be crucial as the team aims to secure a favorable position in their group ahead of the next phase of the qualifiers.
